Sitter
Interview Tips
Here are a few things you may want to consider asking a
potential babysitter during an interview:
Transportation
Through the CollegeSitter profile, the student babysitter
will mark if they have their own transportation. You may
want to ask, however, if the transportation is reliable and
the age of the vehicle, especially if you want the
babysitter to pick up or drop off your kids during the
babysitting job.
References
If the sitter lists references, be sure to contact the
families mentioned. During the interview, ask the sitter to
expand on what they did for the other families listed as
references and why those families agreed to be a reference.
Prior Experience
Beyond references, be sure to ask the sitter about the families they have sat
for before. What do they like best about sitting? What do
they like least? What are the ages of the children they’ve
sat for in the past?
CPR/First Aid/Disability
Sitters may mark on their CollegeSitter profile if they have
the above mentioned qualifications. If a sitter listed they
are trained in any of the above, ask the sitter if any
training or certification is current, plus where and when
the training was received.
Major
The CollegeSitter profile will list the sitters major (and
GPA). Ask the sitter about their field of study and why
they chose that field. This might help you learn more about
the sitter.
Other Jobs/Clubs
Ask the sitter if they have any other part-time or
babysitting jobs that may compete for their time. Also, ask
about any clubs or extracurricular activities that may take
up the student’s time outside of classes.
What Would You Do Scenarios
Give the sitter certain scenarios and ask what they would
do. For example, “What if my son won’t eat his dinner, how
would you handle the situation?” Gear your questions to
known possible areas the sitter may encounter with your
child(ren) while you are away.
Activities
Ask the sitter to list some sample activity ideas they
usually do with kids. What kinds of activities would they
like to do with your kids?
Emergency Situations
Ask the sitter if they've ever encountered any emergencies.
If so, how did they handle the situation?
Best Way to Reach You
Ask the sitter if you should continue contacting them
through the CollegeSitter Web site or if they have another
method of contact that is preferred.
