Tips for using the site (or,
get the most bang for your buck!)
CollegeSitter was designed by
parents with two small kids. We know how tough it is
to find a good sitter and we created the site to try to help
other parents (and college students looking to earn some
extra money for school).
Here are a few tips to try to maximize your chances of
finding a sitter on our site:
(1)
Free Search:
Before registering, take advantage
of our free search. This way, you can get a feel for
how many potential sitters may match your criteria before
you pay money to subscribe.
(2)
Vary the Search Criteria
after You Register: When conducing a
search, if possible, try varying the search criteria some to
expand your results. For example, a student may forget
to click the check box saying they are available for a
Spring Break sitting job, but the text in their profile may
indicate they are available during that time.
 (3)
Express Yourself Entries:
New in the Fall of
2007, CollegeSitter will be asking students to link to
external sites such as MySpace, blogs, or even if they'd
like to create a YouTube video to serve as a special
'pre-interview.' This added information can help you better
evaluate sitters and hopefully help save you time.
(4) Cast a Wide Net:
Remember, you are dealing with
college students who have a lot of other
commitments...school, work, social outings. Try
contacting a few sitters at a time--especially if you need
someone in a rush--in order to maximize the chances of
finding someone.
(5) Post a Job and Contact Sitters Individually: On
CollegeSitter, you can contact sitters individually and post
job notices where sitters contact you. Try posting a
job and contacting individual sitters to help your chances
of finding someone.
(6)
E-mail and My Account Areas: Make sure you set
up your e-mail to receive messages from CollegeSitter.com
since we will contact you via e-mail when you have a
message. Also, be sure to check the "My Account" area
of the site regularly.
(7)
Give Details: The
more details about your circumstances (pay rate, location,
etc.) you give a sitter, the better they can evaluate if
they can meet you needs.
(8)
Check the "Last Log In" Date:
Each sitter record will tell you the date the sitter last
logged into the site.
